COLON CANCER
Our Family

My late husband battled colon cancer for 18 months beginning at age 43. He was diagnosed with advanced, agressive Dukes D colon cancer, and prognosis was possibly a year, with agressive 5 fu chemotherapy & radiation.

He wore the chemo cadd pump 24/7 and had radiation once after surgery and again when it began to recur. The recurrence was a 7 cm mass in left side, and radiation caused another 7 cm mass next to it. The Onco said "yep, sometimes this happens" :( There was no previous warning that this would happen. Then more tumors began to appear and the surgeon said there was no need to operate again, since it was coming so fast, that his stitches may not heal before having more tumors show up.

You may view our daily journal at the following website, look for link to Sunny's Diary, which is totally amateur, but it does get some facts across about poor pain management and the lack of proper medical experts, even tho Oncologists in this small town called themselves Experts.

We have three children; youngest at age 7 below during our final family trip to the State Fair with their daddy.

Samantha was only 6 when her daddy was diagnosed with colon cancer. When Charlie passed away in June 1998 and I was preparing the children for visitation at the funeral home, I hugged Sami and asked not to be afraid, because he loved her so much. She looked up with those beautiful blue eyes and said to me " That's exactly what my Daddy just told me "

I shivered feeling that he was still with us, but loved his watching over our baby.
